Introduction to The Tunnel Amazon Prime video Movie Review

 

It's been awhile since I watched a disaster film, so I decided to do so as a change of  pace in my movie-watching. You may recall that a few years back, there were plenty of disaster-type movies showing at the theaters.Some disaster films that come to my mind includeThe Perfect Storm with Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney, Armageddon starring Bruce Willis and The classic Poseidon Adventure, which appeared in theaters a few years back.

 

The major difference between The Tunnel Amazon Prime video movie is that it is a foreign Norwegian-made film while the other similar type movies I’ve watched were made in America.

 

You may be wondering if the location of The Tunnel movie made any difference in my interest in the movie. In fact, you may be skeptica if it is worth your time to watch The Tunnel Amazon Prime video movie due to its set location in Norway.

Synopsis of the Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel.

 

As expected from the title of the film, all the action as well as the drama in the Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel happens near or in the vicinity of a specific tunnel in Norway. There is also some action in the 911 operator control room as the operator attempts to keep in contact with the victims of the tunnel disaster.

 

Interestingly enough, The Tunnel Amazon Prime video movie begins with a narrative that reveals the large  number of tunnels in Norway, as well as what happens if there should be an accident in the tunnel. The narrative continues to share that the film, The Tunnel, is based upon true events.

 

Suffice it to say that The Tunnel movie was unsettling, especially when you think about the prospect of getting help should this unfortunate tunnel accident happens to you.  In other words, the odds may not be in your favor – even though there is always a chance for a successful rescue mission, as depicted in the Amazon Prme video movie, The Tunnel

 

 

Drama in the Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel

 

The Tunnel Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel is not 100% focused on the tunnel disaster.The movie's storyline involves family drama between a father and his daughter as well as how he is handling himself dating again three years after his daughter’s mother passed. Kudos to the writers for not making the new girlfriend character seem like a villain, even when there was friction between her and the father's daughter.

 Additionally,  and on a positive note, the father’s new girlfriend and daughter’s relationship improved in the midst of the tunnel disaster. 

 

Specifics of the Tunnel Disaster in the Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel

 

To make a long story short, a fuel tank truck was leading another truck through the tunnel on a blustery snowy day when all of a sudden the driver of the first truck lost control of the vehicle. He checked beneath the truck and assured the 911 operator who was also the traffic controller that even though there was an accident in the tunnel involving the fuel tank truck, the truck was not leaking gas.

 

But alas, within a few minutes after the call, he found a huge fuel leak under the truck. Unfortunately, at that time, he met his demise as the truck exploded in the tunnel and fire and smoke cascaded downt he enclosed tunnel endangering the other drivers and passengers.

 

Personally, I thought it was smart for the authorities to close the tunnel; however, dangerous events were already happening due to the truck explosion that had already taken place.

 

In the meantime,the father who was the rescuer found out his daughter was on a bus with other people, who were initially unaware of the danger they were facing. In fact, many of the bus passengers thought there was a hold up or a vehicular back-up in the tunnel due to construction work -- which was of course not the case.

 

The Role of the 911 Operator in the Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel

 

In my opinion, the writer went through great lengths to show that the 911 operator felt empathy for the people who were stuck in the dangerous tunnel. I think she played her role well as a 911 operator traffic controller, especially when she talked to and found out that two little girls were initially stuck in the tunnel and were unable to escape. 

 

Her advice to them was to leave their vehicle and go into the first vehicle they could find. The girls mentioned the word "Postm as they talked which gave the 911 operator the impression that they were going to seek safety in a mail or post office truck. This information was valuable towards the end of the movie, when it appeared the efforts were focused on finding the girls.

 

The above being said, my complaint here is the 911 operator should have shown great concern for all of the disaster victims. Maybe she could identify with the girls, but the reality is there were lots of other people who needed her help as well.

 

However, as the saying goes, "all's well that ends well."  As expected, the rescuer was able to enter the smoke-filled tunnel and ultimately rescue the two girls.

 

 

Assessment of The Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel

 

Even though the movie, The Tunnel is set in Norway and involves a Norwegian tunnel vice one located at an American location,  I think this movie is worth your time to check out.

 

Reasons being, there are a fair amount of action, suspense and drama in the Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel to keep your interest. The suspense will probably escalate when you find out about the two little girls and may wonder if they will be rescued. 

 

Overall, I found the Tunnel Amazon Prime video movie interesting to watch, even if I cringed when I noticed the severe snowy weather conditions the characters had to contend with in addition to having to experience the tunnel disaster. The good news is the rescue mission was deemed a success, even though unfortunately a few people in the movie did not survive the smoke, fire, and other dangers that resulted from the fuel tank truck accident in the tunnel.

 

Realism in The Amazon Prime video movie, The Tunnel

 

Due to the adequate acting skills of the main actors in the Amazon prime video movie, The Tunnel, the film exudes a sufficient amount of realism. So real, in fact that you may be a little apprehensive should you have to drive through a tunnel, no matter your location.
